About Audio Recording

I started experimenting with audi recording about two years ago after I picked up a ZoomH4, ever since then I’ve been building up a collection of audio recordings for fun, work and sometimes just because I can!

Why Audio Recording?

Simply:

  • I like recording because it puts you right into the scene.
  • I find it can be more evocative than smell or sight.
  • It feels less intrusive than photography.
  • It makes me listen.

Although I’ve used the term recording I prefer listening. The recording is very much a by-product of the listening. Hearing is passive, listening is active. If you sit for a few moments and listen anywhere, anyplace you might be surprised at what you find.

Audio Recording and Psychosis

I’m very interested in the relationship between auditory environments and psychosis. Currently I’m writing an article about the role of listening and audio recording equipment as a therapeutic activity for people experiencing psychosis.

Skill

Audio Recording requires an understanding of sound and some skill… I don’t pretend to have either, Indeed I make plenty of mistakes, many of which you can hear in my audio recordings

    Hi Martin

I just came across your site via the London Sound Survey site. It’s a nice clean layout but I’ve yet to listen to the recordings. Just FYI there is a typo in the first line of the ‘About’ page, and I think you may have moved your categories drop down list from the left side to the right recently (I hope that’s enough of a hint…)

    Regards
    John

Hi John thanks for the comments!

It’s more likely a case of idiocy than a typo. I tried to follow the link to your site but the server cannot be found?
